Anne Ylvisaker (pronounced ILL-vi-soccer) is an artist and author.

Anne is the Monterey Museum of Art’s 2026 Illuminado artist. Her interactive installation Rooms of Possibility runs October 23, 2026 to January 24, 2027.

Anne has participated in various group art shows, as well as a solo show of paintings and poems at the National Steinbeck Center, Suprised by Delight. Her recent work explores her matriarchal family tree through Lánsdottir, a site specific installation in Pacific Grove, California. Lánsdottir is also the subject of an upcoming animated short film and a documentary about friendship and art.

Anne is the author of the forthcoming picture book HOW TO WONDER (Viking, 2027) as well as numerous award winning novels and picture books for young readers. In 2005 Anne was awarded the McKnight Artist Fellowship/Loft Award in Children’s Literature. She has a master’s degree in education.

Anne grew up near the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and lived in St. Paul, Minnesota and Cedar Rapids, Iowa before moving to Monterey, California in 2010, where she lives with her husband Dan.
